Andrea Cremers' BLOODROSE ARCS??!??

Here Be The Deets!:

State of the ARC

This week has been amazing. Thank you so much to all the amazing people who've come to my signings and to those of you who I haven't been able to see in person but having been flooding my inbox, Facebook, and twitter with wonderful messages. Your support of Nightshade means more to me than I could ever express!

Now that Wolfsbane is out I'm already getting questions about Bloodrose.

If you've finished Wolfsbane you can read Chapter 1 of Bloodrose here. (Spoilers! Don't read it before Wolfsbane)

Bloodrose is the final book of the trilogy and will be published in February 21, 2012.

In the life of a book, it's common for publishers to release Advanced Review Copies (ARCs) or galleys prior to the book's publication in order to give reviewers a sense of what's coming. In the case of Bloodrose we seriously considered not creating ARCs because the final book of the Nightshade series is so loaded with spoilers we wanted to be sure none of them were leaked before February 21.

After much thought it was decided that a limited number of ARCs would be created because booksellers need to know what's in the book before they order it and hand sell it to their customers.

What this all boils down to is that there will be some ARCs out in the world, but not many. We've asked anyone who receives an advanced copy to keep its contents secret. It's so important that the story isn't spoiled. So if you see a tweet or a review (that won't actually give you much information about the book) it's because we've asked everyone to keep this story quiet. It also means that I don't have ARCs to distribute and I won't be giving any away in the lead up to Bloodrose's publication date. I hope when you read Bloodrose in February you'll think it was worth the wait :) "
I like that there will be limited ARCS 'cus that means fewer chances at spoilers!!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 Passes the 1 Billion Dollars Mark!!!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2, passed the $1 billion mark on Saturday and is slowly, but surely making its way to the top five movies of all time.
$1,008,460,000
$1,008,460000
Though Harry Potter is pretty darn awesome - er, more like brilliantly epic, I do not think that it can become the number one movie of all time or even number two, 'cus those slots are mega.
 $1,843,201,268
The number one movie of all time, is of course AVATAR by James Cameron with $2,782,275,172 in worldwide sales, warrant it was in theaters for nearly 250 days, more then most movies ever see, it is still a film that will probably never be passed, not even by its own sequels. The second biggest film of all time is another little flick by James Cameron known as Titanic, maybe you've heard of it?? This titanic film (yesyesidid!!) box office grossed nearly 2 billion smackaroos, earning a total of $1,843,201,268 in its lifetime!

But the third biggest movie of all time, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King by Peter Jackson, which had a grand total of  $1,119,110,941, is the film I believe Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 2 CAN and WILL beat!

HP 7 pt 2 is the finale of the most successful and beloved film franchise of all time and has only been in cinemas for 17 days and has already made over a billion dollars, so I really do think that within another 120 days or so, HP 7 pt 2, will be the number three movie of all time, at least until (maybe) The Hobbit films debut and the AVATAR sequels hit the big screen.

Harry Potter, you have been the most profound memories of my young life and I've enjoyed every moment of you & I hope you go out (never forgotten of course) kickn' ass!!

Final words of departure?? Twwwwwilight, ha-ha-ha-ha-na-na-na, you'll never beat Harry Potter na-na-na-na-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!

Okay, I'm done.

Emma Stone Leads in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?!?!?

'Emma Stone has been offered the leading role in Craig Gillespie's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Variety reports.

Emma Stone would take over for the originally-rumored Natalie Portman, who remains on board the project as a producer. The film, based on Seth Grahame-Smith's re-interpretation of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, features the literary heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Stone) up against hordes of ravenous zombies.

Stone would be the first cast member for the project, which has been scripted by Grahame-Smith and Marti Noxon. She will next appear in Disney's The Help and will play Gwen Stacy in next summer's The Amazing Spider-Man.' Thanks to comingsoon.net!!

Thoughts?

Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast?!?

Guillermo del Torro and Crazy, Stupid, Love, producer Denise Di Novi have reportedly chosen Emma Watson to play the Beauty in the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast!

This film is following the remake of other classic tales such as Sleeping Beauty's remake, Maleficent by Tim Burton, Alice in Wonderland and Snow White which has two films, Lily Collins and Kristen Stewart each respectively as the leads.

Emma's current projects include The Perks of Being a Wallflower and My Week with Marilyn.

I think that this is a really great idea and Emma is actually perfect for the role. I can honestly see her as the Beauty!

I hope this project comes to fruition and that Emma is cast as Beauty, 'cus it will surely mean she is still in the acting game and will hopefully have a really amazing and promising career.

Thoughts??

p.s. i think both of these pictures perfectly illustrate fairytales/beauty and the beast....

First LOOK of Lily Collins as Snow White!!

The Hobbit Behind the Scenes No. 3!

"The Hobbit" follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Rachel Hawkins SPELL BOUND Cover Reveal!

Rachel Hawkins revealed the cover for the final book in her Hex Hall Trilogy, Spell Bound, earlier today . . .  . !!

Isn't it really nice? It is. Awesome.

'eres What Its About:

'Hailed as “impossible to put down,” the Hex Hall series has both critics and teens cheering. With a winning combination of romance, action, magic and humor, this third volume will leave readers enchanted.

Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident.

Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?'

I'm very xcited for this book. I loved the first two and can't wait for this one and to see how Sophie's story ends.

Harry Potter and the Oscar Buzz!?!?

"Hopefully, it will be given the attention it deserves," Warner Bros. exec Dan Fellman told us Sunday.
The first seven Potter films combined to earn nine nominations and zero wins. More than that, not one of the movies was seriously in contention for Best Picture.

But if the history-making opening weekend of the franchise's finale, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, isn't enough of a game-changer, then the film's critical reception may be.
Said Fellman: "The reviews are sensational."

True enough, HP8 has a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the highest of any of the series' films, and higher than any of last year's Best Picture nominees, save Toy Story 3.

On the downside, the last film to burst out of the gate (nearly) as big and acclaimed as Deathly Hallows Part 2 was The Dark Knight, which, of course, did not get nominated for Best Picture.
On the upside, Harry Potter is no Batman.

For one thing, post-Dark Knight, the Best Picture field was expanded to include 10 nominees (though since revised to include as many as 10 nominees).

For another thing, the ailing Hollywood of today owes the boy wizard more than the booming Hollywood of 2008 owed the Caped Crusader.

And then there's this: Per a tweet Sunday from Entertainment Weekly's Dave Karger, Academy members have seen Deathly Hallows Part 2, "and loved it."

So, yes, it's plausible, if not possible: Potter has one more trick up his sleeve.' CITED from eonline.com

Harry Potter Makes Cinematic History - Again!!

Harry Potter Destroys All Records!!!

'Harry Potter is the Biggest Worldwide Debut Ever with $476M
Source: Warner Bros. Pictures
July 17, 2011

Warner Bros. Pictures released the following statement on the record-breaking worldwide debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2:

With an astounding estimated worldwide box office total of more than $476 million, Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” shattered multiple domestic and international box office records in a history-making opening weekend. The announcement was made today by Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, Dan Fellman, and President of International Distribution, Veronika Kwan-Rubinek.

The finale of the globally beloved film series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” earned a stunning $168.5 million at the domestic box office, which not only is the biggest Harry Potter opening weekend but also obliterated the industry’s opening weekend record, including holiday weekends. Among the other records broken were single-day box office (Friday at $92.1 million), Friday box office, and opening day box office.

Opening day-and-date in 59 territories, the international box office take was a staggering $307 million, making it the biggest international weekend of all time. Led by record-breaking grosses in the UK ($36.6 million) and Australia ($26.7 million), all markets have performed exceedingly well, including Germany ($25.7 million), France ($23.9 million) and Japan ($21.5 million).

Globally, it also broke the IMAX opening weekend record with a worldwide gross of $23.5 million, which includes setting a new record in North America with $15.5 million.

The film began breaking records even before its opening, as unprecedented advance ticket sales gave the first indication of just how huge the box office bow would be. Midnight opening screenings not only met but exceeded those expectations, with $43.5 million at the domestic box office alone.

Dan Fellman stated, “These numbers are amazing, but they are only part of the story. It is impossible to quantify how thrilled and grateful we all are that both critics and audiences—especially loyal Harry Potter fans—continue to support the film. This is the culmination of an extraordinary decade, and a reflection of the hard work and dedication of many, many people on both sides of the camera, beginning with the brilliant J.K. Rowling, as well as producer David Heyman. We applaud them all.”

Veronika Kwan-Rubinek remarked, “Harry Potter is truly a cultural phenomenon the world over. Whether in German, French, Japanese, Russian, or any language, international audiences have embraced the Harry Potter films over the years, with the powerful finale punctuating just how special the property is. We congratulate everyone associated with the films on this monumental achievement.”

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.

Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson reprise their roles as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The film’s ensemble cast also includes Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, John Hurt, Jason Isaacs, Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, David Thewlis, Julie Walters and Bonnie Wright.

The film was directed by David Yates, and produced by David Heyman, David Barron and J.K. Rowling. Steve Kloves adapted the screenplay, based on the novel by J.K. Rowling. Lionel Wigram is the executive producer.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” is the first Harry Potter film to be released in both 3D and 2D. Concurrently with its nationwide theatrical distribution, the film will be released in select IMAX® theatres. The film has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® through proprietary IMAX DMR® technology.

Opening nationwide on July 15, the film is being distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company. It has been rated PG-13 for some sequences of intense action violence and frightening images.' CITED from comingsoon.net

Deathly Hallows Breaks Opening Day Record With 92.1 Million Smackaroos!

"UPDATE: Potter Sets Opening Day Record with $92.1 Million!

Source: ERC Box Office , Edward Douglas

After setting a new midnight record with over $43 million, Warner Bros.' Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 looks to have beat the previous single day and opening day records of $72.7 million held by Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

According to ERC Box Office, it has grossed $92.1 million in its opening Friday including those $43.5 million from midnight shows and it's well on its way towards an opening weekend that should easily surpass the current record held by Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight. Christopher Nolan's anticipated Batman sequel opened on the same weekend three years ago to the tune of $158.4 million in three days, a record that's held steady even with the last two "Twilight" movies having bigger opening days.

Granted, the "Harry Potter" finale will be heavily frontloaded once you remove those Thursday midnights but it's still looking very likely to have an opening weekend northwards of $170 million.

Deadline is reporting that the movie has grossed $82.5 million internationally from business on Wednesday and Thursday as well.

Check back tomorrow for the full box office report." Cited From Comingsoon.net!!!

Ain't this awesome news!?!?!

Yes - yes it is!!!

J.K. Rowling and Gangs EMOTIONAL Speeches at Deathly Hallows Premiere!!

wow. this is one emotional speech. its brilliant and funny and utterly true!

Harry Potter Fanvid 4!!

Minister Rufus Scrimgeour addresses the wizarding media stating that the Ministry of Magic will remain strong as Lord Voldemort gains power throughout the Wizarding and Muggle worlds. Meanwhile Harry is seen when the Dursleys go into hiding and Hermione, using a spell, blanks her parents' minds, erasing everything they know about her. Later on Severus Snape arrives at Malfoy Manor to inform Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters of Harry's departure from No. 4 Privet Drive. Voldemort commandeers Lucius Malfoy's wand, as Voldemort's own wand cannot be used to kill Harry. Meanwhile, the Order of the Phoenix arrive at Privet Drive and escort Harry to safety using Polyjuice Potion to create six decoy Harrys. During their flight to the Burrow they are ambushed by Death Eaters, resulting in the deaths of Mad-Eye Moody and Hedwig. Voldemort attempts to kill Harry with Malfoy's wand, but fails. At the Burrow, Harry has a vision of Ollivander being tormented by Voldemort, who claims that the wand-maker had lied to him by informing him of the only way to kill Harry: obtaining another's wand.

Scrimgeour arrives at the Burrow and distributes items from Albus Dumbledore's will to Ron, Hermione and Harry. Ron receives Dumbledore's Deluminator; Hermione, The Tales of Beedle the Bard; and Harry is given the Golden Snitch. It's revealed that Harry was also willed to receive the Sword of Godric Gryffindor, however Scrimgeour states that the sword is an important historical artifact and is not eligible to be given away.

Later, the wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour is disrupted by Death Eaters, who have infiltrated the Ministry and are using its authority to persecute Muggle-born witches and wizards. The trio disapparate to London and find sanctuary at No. 12 Grimmauld Place. There they discover that the "R.A.B." from the false Horcrux locket is Regulus Arcturus Black, the younger brother of Sirius Black. From Kreacher, the Black's house-elf, they learn that Mundungus Fletcher stole the real locket. Kreacher and Dobby apprehend Fletcher, who reveals that the locket is in the possession of Dolores Umbridge. Under the disguise of Polyjuice Potion, the trio infiltrate the Ministry and successfully retrieve the locket, narrowly escaping into the wilderness, but revealing and thus losing 12 Grimmauld Place.

Unable to destroy the Horcrux, they take turns wearing it in order to dilute its negative psychological effects. Harry sees a vision of Voldemort interrogating Gregorovitch, a renowned wand-maker who claims that a teenage boy had once stolen the legendary Elder Wand from his shop. Voldemort then begins a search for the thief. While Ron wears the locket, he is overcome with the suspicion that Harry and Hermione are forming a romantic relationship. As a result, under the mistaken assumption that Hermione has rejected him, he abandons them in anger. Harry and Hermione then visit Godric's Hollow where they seek Bathilda Bagshot, the historian who may have the Sword of Gryffindor, which they believe will destroy Horcruxes. However, they are instead cornered by Voldemort's snake, Nagini, and barely escape. Harry's wand is broken. Hermione identifies the mysterious thief seen in Harry's vision as Gellert Grindelwald.

When evening falls, Harry sees a doe patronus which leads him to a frozen pond. Gryffindor's sword is beneath the ice. Harry enters the pool through the ice to reach the sword. The locket around his neck attempts to strangle him, but Ron returns to rescue him. Ron eventually overcomes the locket's power, smashing it with the sword.

The trio then visit Xenophilius Lovegood to learn about a symbol seen several times on their journey. They learn that the symbol represents the quest for the Deathly Hallows: the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility. Lovegood betrays them to the Death Eaters in an effort to have his kidnapped daughter returned. Harry envisions Voldemort learning from Grindelwald that the Elder Wand lies with Dumbledore. The trio are captured and taken to Malfoy Manor. Bellatrix Lestrange imprisons Harry and Ron in a cellar in which they discover Luna, Ollivander, and Griphook the goblin. She tortures Hermione for information on how they found the sword, which was supposedly in her vault at Gringotts (she uses her wand to carve "Mudblood" on Hermione's arm). After Dobby apparates to save them, a short battle ensues, and Harry duels with Draco and defeats him. Dobby is killed by Bellatrix as the protagonists escape. As Harry mourns the loss of his friend, Voldemort breaks into Dumbledore's tomb and takes the Elder Wand. And to test if it works, Voldemort casts a spell into the clouds above him.

Inhertiance Book 4 a.k.a The Vault of Souls!!!

Christopher Paolini's Inhertiance, book 4 in the Inheritance Cycle is subtitled The Vault of Souls!

What is the Vault of Souls you may ask??

This IS the Vault of Souls!!

'The Vault of Souls was an unknown location. Solembum, the werecat, told Eragon that if he was ever in need of strength, he should go the Rock of Kuthian and open the Vault of Souls by speaking his name.
Oromis stated in Brisingr that the Rock of Kuthian struck a familiar chord with him, but he had never before heard of the Vault of Souls. Also, Arya had stated that it sounded familiar, but could not place why.' COURTESY of http://inheritance.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page.

Thoughts about the title of book 3? Have you gotten your copy of Supernaturally pre-ordered yet??

Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Book Trailer!!

The book trailer for the fourth and final story in Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle, Inhertiance was released today!!

Whawhaagaga!!!! I am very xcited about this!! November will be here sooner then anyone realizes and yet again, another awesome book series will come to an end!!

Earlier today, after seeing the pure mess that is Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, actually while watching TF3, 'cus I was that bored I had time to contemplate things, I was thinking about how utterly awesome it would be if they rebooted Eragon for the Big Screen, made it brilliant and then continued with the rest of the series! I mean they have rebooted the Hulk within a five year span, with completely different actors, have rebooted Spiderman with completely different actors and are even considering rebooting Transformers with completely different actors . . .why, you ask??  For money!

So, personally, I think they should reboot Eragon! If they do and stick with the source material I know they will have mjr success! Eragon might not be a story that has been around for decades, but it still made a considerable amount of money within its opening weekend considering how bad it was and how it deviated from the book, nearly 99%!!

I dont' know, I just wanna see Eragon brought to life once again and done right -- only to be followed by Eldest, Brisingr and then Inheritance!!!

Lauren Olivers' Pandemonium Cover Reveal!!

Lauren Oliver author of the awesome Delirium Trilogy has revealed the new cover for the second book in the series, Pandemonium! The Pandemonium cover is following the scheme of the new Delirium Special Edition cover and it is really amazing! Though I like the Delirium SE cover more, it is still pretty darn awesome! Will def be getting the new Delirium covered SE and I can not wait for Pandemonium!

Heres What Pandemonium is About!!:

'Lauren Oliver captivated readers with Delirium, the first book in a thrilling dystopian trilogy in which Lena Haloway dared to fall in love with Alex and escape the cure, the government-mandated procedure that renders a person immune to the disease of love. Lena and Alex staked their lives on leaving their oppressive society, but only Lena broke free.

Pandemonium continues Lena’s gripping story. After escaping from Portland, Maine, Lena makes it to the Wilds and becomes part of an Invalid community, where she transforms herself into a warrior for the resistance. Jackson Pearce's New Books!!

Jackson Pearce, author of Sisters Red and As You Wish has a new book coming out this year called Sweetly, but she has just recently announced two more books that will hit shelves next year . . . . . . Purity and Fathomless!

Fathomless

'Coming August 2012 from Little, Brown!

FATHOMLESS is a companion book to SISTERS RED and SWEETLY, and is a retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Little Mermaid.

Celia Reynolds is the youngest in a set of triplets, and the one with the least valuable power. Anne can see the future, Jane can see the present—therefore essentially read minds—and all Celia can do is see the past.
Lo doesn’t know who she is. Or who she was. Once a human, she is now almost entirely a creature of the sea—an undine, a nymph, a mermaid; all terms too pretty for the soulless creature she knows she’s becoming. The other ocean girls, her “sisters,” tell her there’s only one way for her to earn her soul and humanity back—convince a mortal to love her, and steal his.

Lo thinks a soul is within her grasp when she saves a guitarist, Jude, from drowning. When Celia intervenes, she accidentally reads Lo’s past, calling out Lo’s long-forgotten human name. The two forge a friendship, meeting by the shore to remember Lo’s old life, to talk, to share secrets they’d never tell their “real” sisters.
Yet remembering makes Lo more desperate than ever for a soul– and despite Jude’s blossoming romance with Celia, she can’t resist longing for his.

Straddling the line between humanity and darkness, Lo struggles to find her place on either side, while Celia wonders just what she and her power have unleashed. But the sister you choose can be more powerful than those you’re born with– in a fight against Lo’s sisters and the waves themselves, Jude and Celia risk their lives to save Lo from her own darkness. But is a soulless, wanting existence better than none at all?'

Purity

'Hours before her mother died, Shelby promised her three things– to listen to her father, to live life without restraint, and to love whenever possible.

Those promises were easy to keep when she was younger, but things get tricky when she turns sixteen. Shelby’s still-grieving father joins a committee at their church to host a Purity Ball– a dance where young women pledge their purity (namely, their virginity) to their father’s safekeeping until they marry.

But Shelby has a Life List– things she wants to do, to live without restraint like she promised her mother– and getting married young isn’t on it. Waiting until she’s thirty to have her first time isn’t on it either. But how is she supposed to keep her promise to listen to her father if she refuses to pledge? By exploiting a loophole- by losing her virginity before the Ball.

She and her best friend Jonas make a list of potential partners, but somewhere in-between failed attempts at losing her virginity, trying to answer some lingering questions about God, and planning the Ball with her Dad, Shelby starts to understand what her mother really meant, what her father really needs, and who really has the right to her PURITY.'

I am really xcited about this!!

The books have been in talks for awhile now, but now they are official!!

2012, needs to hurry on up!

Review: HEX HALL by Rachel Hawkins

Author: Rachel Hawkins
Release Date: March 2, 2010
Age Group: YA
Publisher: Hyperion
Page Count: 336
Source: Amazon

Description:

'Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It’s gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie’s estranged father—an elusive European warlock—only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it’s her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.'

The Cover: The cover is very nice, but really has nada to do with the book as a whole. It is pretty though . . .There isn't even a cat, anywhere in the book.

First Line: " Felicia Miller was crying in the bathroom. Again."

My Thoughts . . . .

First, let me give a big thank-a-you to Laura over at the Bookie Bunch for suggesting this book via her vlog, because it was a really fun summer read!!
Hex Hall tells the story of Sophie Mercer who has known that she was a witch for some time now and after making a big flop of a spell at her school dance, is sent to Hecate Hall a.k.a Hex Hall, a reform school for paranormal creatures known as Prodigium, that have done something bad with their abilities.
This book reminded me of several things, Harry Potter obliviously being one of them, but it also reminded me of the Gemma Doyle trilogy by Libba Bray and the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan, I guess because it has to do with magical situations going down at school/camp and it was really fun and humorous, but not only did Hex Hall have a similar quality as the books listed above, it also had its own, really grool mythos.
Hex Hall is a school for Fey, Witches and Shifters including Werewolves and the origins of each species is really awesome! I loved the lore Hawkins put into this book, not only with how each group of beings came to be, but also about the groups of people that hunt the Prodigium, 'the Eye', being the Biggest Baddie.
Sophie was a good protag. She was funny and sarcastic and overall relateable to just about every teenager, besides the being a witch part. I enjoyed watching her grow from a girl who couldn’t control her magic, to a girl who in the end, kicked some serious butt! My one complaint is that, though she was struggling with using her magic and understanding it, I didn’t quite get how she was able to do the things she did in the end. I never got see her actually grow and learn with the magic; one day she was just making a mess and the next, after about a few ‘lessons’ she was basically a pro. I get how she got better; I just didn’t believe that she got so ‘strong’ so fast.
Soph’s best friend and really only friend at Hex Hall is a vamp named Jenna and Jenna was awesome. She wasn’t annoying at all and though many things relating to her were really obvious for me, I still enjoyed reading about her, especially her interaction with Sophie, ‘cus they were great friends.
Elodie to me was probably the most intriguing character. I liked her a lot and though she was the ‘mean’ girl of the school, I never really hated her until one of the ‘big’ discoveries that occur. I don’t want to give a lot away about her, but everything concerning Elodie is not as it seems. She might be a total witch (yep, I said it!), but she did have her own faults and sadness and I really liked that - she wasn't 1-Dimensional. There is something lurking behind her . . .
Also her minions, Chaston and Anne were awesome and weren't cardboard cutouts - they had their own personalities.

I really liked the interaction between the different Prodigium and thought it was really funny.
Archer was the love interest and though I did not get why Sophie liked him, I did like that her affection for him was not at first sight and was very believable. Archer wasn't annoying - none of the characters were - and I liked him better then most YA heartthrobs, because he wasn't obnoxious and all " I to-taleeee, like, love you!"
But that brings me to a bad point. The characters use um, like, and and, waaaay too much. It was really annoying. Not all teens talk like that, in fact most don't, so my ish is that all of these characters, should not be constantly using these words in their sentences.

Though at times the story was predictable, there were PLENTY of times where I was really surprised! There were lots of twists and turns in this book and I loved it.

Hawkins' writing style is quick, clean and to the point. Sometimes it was too fast, but I liked the pace, because it made for a simple, yet intriguing fun read, with nice, slick descriptions!

Question: Should you read?

Answer: Hex YES!!

Lauren DeStefano's AWESOME Contest!!

Lauren DeStefano, author of the beautiful Chemical Gardens Trilogy is having a really grool contest on her blog.

Here Be The Deets!!:

'Hello, glorious readers/fans/stalkers!

I said that once my Facebook fan page surpassed 1500 likes, I would host a giveaway, and I am always true to my word (except when I am making things up for a living, which, let’s face it, is why you’re here).

In honor of my 1500 likes, I am giving away 5 signed bookplates, to be awarded to five individuals. In the interest of keeping things fair, each entrant can only win a maximum of 1 bookplate. I’m happy to sign and personalize these bookplates however the winner would like. Keep in mind they aren’t very big, so I can’t write you a poem or a love letter or anything. I do love to personalize things for my readers, though. Think of my signature as a little paper huglet from me to you. The bookplates are plain white and they say “Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing” on the bottom.

What can you do with your bookplate, you ask? You can:

1.) Stick it in your book
2.) Use its adhesive to repair a carburetor
3.) Rub your face against it like a cat
4.) Plant it to grow a bacon tree (disclaimer: this bookplate will not grow bacon)
5.) Fasten two chipmunks together and enter them in a three-legged race
6.) Dress it like Clark Gable to keep grandma company
The possibilities are LIMITLESS! Right about now you’re probably gaping at the screen and wanting to ask, “Lauren, what do I have to do to acquire one of these fine bookplates?!” Well, I’ll tell ya:

Step 1: Want a bookplate. I mean really, really want one.
Step 2: Tweet, facebook, or blog about this giveaway and provide a link to my blog (please link to my blog at www.laurendestefano.com/blog. Comments on my duplicate goodreads blog will NOT be counted).
Step 3: Leave a comment on this exact blog post providing a link to your twitter, facebook, or blog posting. You may post one comment for each link, meaning that if you posted on facebook, twitter, and your blog, you may enter up to three times to increase your odds of winning. However, you can only win once.
Step 4: YOU DID IT. Go celebrate, you big party animal.

Giveaway is closed as of Monday, July 18th at 11:31 AM Eastern time, no exceptions. Look, I am even giving you a whole extra shiny minute.

I will number each blog comment in the order in which it was posted. I will then select the winner using a random number generator. The random number generator has no bias, I promise. I will announce the winners here on my blog on Monday, July 18th by 12 PM Eastern time, and provide them with instructions.

And, oh yeah, this giveaway is INTERNATIONAL. Winners are not responsible for postage. I’ve gotcha covered, folks.'
