NIGHTSHADE by Andrea Cremer
Nightshade has wolves, magic, witches and demons!
Here is the Book Description:
'While other teenage girls daydream about boys, Calla Tor imagines ripping out her enemies’ throats. And she wouldn’t have it any other way. Calla was born a warrior and on her eighteenth-birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves. But Calla’s predestined path veers off course the moment she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a boy her own age. This human boy’s secret will turn the young pack's world upside down and forever alter the outcome of the centuries-old Witches' War that surrounds them all. '
The Title is Awesome
The Cover is BEAUTIFUL
The Chapter Openings are GREAT
The Pages are Beautiful
The Character Names are Brilliant
The World is Stunning and Pretty DARN Creative
The Creatures are Brilliant
The Storyline is Terrific.
NOT A TWILIGHT wannabe. Original
(Shes CLEARLY very creative)
that being said . . . . .
The Characters are always Glaring or Grasping or Snatching or Snapping, just Angry or doing SOMETHING aggressive for some awkward reason.
The Characters are nevered DESCRIBED, except for a brief fling stating SOME characters not ALL hair and thats basically it. You never visiualize the characters beyond a figure that just there and has a cool name.
Things are NEVER really explained. Whats, WHAT???! How does changing into a wolf feel? All there really is, is anger and lust, sometimes combined.
CALLA is always kissing some guy, warrant theres only two, but shes always in some kind of intense trance with them were she can't control herself. This in itself is not bad at all, but the fact that she says she "fighting" it, fighting her and on the next page she's macking with a guy again, is very annoying.
There is NO DESCRIPTIONS OF SETTING BEYOND A FEW SIMPLE DETAILS. A wild flower and dirt or a table and a bowl of sugar or a chair or a statue and pictures. You don't really get to feel the atmospshere of the places or the characters or situations.
FOR EXAMPLE Calla Tor the Main Character is often in the woods, but the smell of the trees and dirt, the sounds of the animals, or even the sights that one might see while traversing in the forest are never presented. If she DID NOT state that she was in the woods, she could have been in a coffee shop or school house because the setting is never spoken of.
This book I have to admit, is addictive. I DID NOT want to put it down and I didn't. I needed to know what happened next and if that was all that mattered when reading a book, it would be a perfect 5!! But books have to have more . . . .
I really did like this book alot, but it wasn't as amazing as I was hoping!
P.S. Repulicans for Voldemort. (I WANT THAT SHIRT!!!) ; )
A Total Score of 3.9!
